Fox News host mocks Trump’s ‘sweeping mandate’ claim

A co-host of Fox News’ “The Five” isn’t buying President-elect Donald Trump’s claim he won the election in a “sweeping” and “an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”
Democratic strategist Jessica Tarlov mocked Trump’s claim that was part of his victory speech after CNN’s Harry Enten discussed on air how Republicans in the House of Representatives will likely have one of the smallest majorities in more than 100 years.
“Another notch in the ‘sweeping mandate’ belt,” Tarlov posted to X.
From Enten:
Yes, the Republicans are going to control the House of Representatives. But if all of the current results holds up, we’re looking at a record small majority after November in the last 90 years. You have to go all the way back to the Herbert Hoover administration to find an even smaller majority after November elections.
We’re talking about the Republicans with 220 seats (and) Democrats with 215 if the current House results holds. And keep in mind, this will drop lower if (Elise) Stefanik, (Mike) Waltz or others, like Matt Gaetz, leave the Congress.
Gaetz resigned his seat amid Trump tapping him to be the next attorney general, though Gaetz dropped out of the running for the job after it became clear he faced hurdles with the Senate confirmation process. However, he was reelected to another term and could potentially return to Washington next year, but he’s said he doesn’t plan to come back to Congress.
Trump tapped Stefanik to be the next U.N. ambassador and Waltz to be his national security adviser.
That means the GOP’s control of the chamber could shrink to 217 Republicans and 215 Democrats for several weeks or months until those seats are filled and that a single Republican lawmaker would have the ability to tank any vote.
